Hello and welcome!

My name is Angelica Johnson, but most students know me as Ms. Angel. I am a Special Education and Transition Teacher at West Creek High School, where I teach Introduction to Self-Determination, Transition to Adulthood, and Transition to Postsecondary. I also co-teach Biology, combining my passion for science with helping students succeed.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University, a Master's Degree in Special Education from Walden University, and an Associate Degree in Aeronautical Science. My background in psychology, education, and science helps me connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

I am passionate about helping students build confidence, discover their strengths, and develop the skills needed for success after high school. My classroom focuses on academics, self-advocacy, independence, career readiness, and lifelong learning.

I look forward to partnering with students and families for a successful school year!

My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can learn, grow, and prepare for success in school, work, and life. To help make that happen, I ask all students to follow these expectations:

1. Be Respectful

  • Treat everyone with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Use appropriate language and actions at all times.
  • Respect differences in opinions, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Follow directions from teachers, staff, and guest speakers.
  • Take care of classroom materials, technology, and school property.

2. Be Responsible

  • Arrive to class on time and prepared to learn.
  • Bring required materials each day.
  • Complete assignments and activities to the best of your ability.
  • Take ownership of your learning and your actions.
  • Follow school and classroom procedures.

3. Be Engaged

  • Participate in class discussions, activities, and group work.
  • Ask questions when you need help.
  • Stay focused on the lesson and assigned tasks.
  • Give your best effort, even when work is challenging.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills.

4. Be Safe

  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Follow all school safety procedures.
  • Use classroom equipment appropriately.
  • Report concerns to an adult when needed.
  • Help create a positive and welcoming classroom environment.

5. Be Ready for Your Future

In our transition classes, we are preparing for life after high school. Students are expected to:

  • Practice self-advocacy and communication skills.
  • Develop independence and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrate workplace behaviors such as responsibility, punctuality, and teamwork.
  • Set goals and work toward achieving them.
  • Learn from mistakes and continue growing.

Cell Phone Policy

In accordance with Tennessee law and CMCSS policy, cell phones and personal electronic devices are not to be used during the instructional day unless specifically authorized by school administration or required by an IEP, 504 Plan, or medical plan.

Students may be required to place their phones in the classroom phone locker during class. Failure to follow the school and classroom cell phone policy may result in disciplinary consequences according to district guidelines.

Late Work Policy

Learning opportunities happen every day, and deadlines matter. Just as employers expect employees to arrive to work on time and complete tasks by deadlines, students are expected to submit assignments by the assigned due date. Late work is not accepted except in situations outlined by school policy or approved absences.

This classroom is a place where mistakes are part of learning, effort matters, and growth is celebrated. My job is to help you develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to reach your goals. Your job is to show up, participate, and give your best effort every day.
